XPENG GX
Written: 05.02.2026 by XPENG Guru Team (Updated: 07.02.2026)
XPENG has released the first official information about its upcoming SUV model GX, which has both been registered in Chinese regulatory databases and presented by CEO He Xiaopeng.
The information indicates that GX is positioned as a new flagship in XPENG’s model lineup – in terms of size, technology, and overall ambition.
At the same time, there is still considerable confusion in international articles, where two internal projects – G01 and G02 – are often mixed up. It is therefore important to start with a clear clarification of which model GX actually is.

G01 vs. G02
This concerns two upcoming SUV models from XPENG:
- G01 → now officially launched as XPENG GX
Length: approx. 5.30 meters - G02
Length: approx. 5.10 meters
The vehicle shown in all official images and regulatory documents is G01, which is now being launched under the name GX. G02 has been mentioned in various contexts, but at present there is no official information regarding its model name, market positioning, or launch strategy.

A step above G9 – both in size and positioning
When the first images and information began circulating, many expected the model to represent the next generation of the G9. That assumption, however, does not appear to fully hold.
Early pricing indications from Chinese sources – converted to Danish market conditions – suggest that XPENG GX positions itself in a class above the G9. A potential Danish price would, in that case, start around DKK 800,000 if the model is eventually introduced in Denmark. This aligns with how GX is described in official communications, where it is referred to as a true flagship.
The background for a large six-seat SUV
According to XPENG, GX is based on extensive user research. Many families pointed to three recurring challenges with traditional three-row SUVs:
- The third row is often uncomfortable
- When all seats are in use, luggage space disappears
- Large SUVs are perceived as heavy and cumbersome to drive
GX has therefore been developed with the goal of reducing these compromises through layout, technology, and driving characteristics.
Six individual seats with a focus on comfort
GX is offered with six individual seats, indicating a clear focus on comfort rather than maximum seating capacity. XPENG itself states that all seats are full-sized and not emergency or occasional seats.
The seats – likely the rear four – can be folded completely flat, providing a high degree of flexibility. At the same time, XPENG promises a genuinely usable luggage compartment even when all six seats are in use. This approach makes GX interesting as a family SUV and also provides insight into the direction future larger XPENG models may take.

SEPA 3.0 platform and “Physical AI”
XPENG GX is based on a new SEPA 3.0 platform, which the company itself describes as a Physical AI vehicle architecture. The platform is intended to enable improvements in areas such as:
- System integration
- Intelligent control
- Driving dynamics
- Safety
GX is developed according to so-called first principles, where the vehicle is designed as a cohesive whole with software and AI as its foundation, rather than as add-on features.
Driving characteristics: a large vehicle, yet easy to handle
A key focus area for GX is driving characteristics. XPENG directly addresses the challenge of large vehicles, which are often perceived as less agile in everyday use.
GX is described as being equipped with:
- Drive-by-wire
- Rear-wheel steering
- AI-based chassis and stability control
According to XPENG, this combination is intended to provide a balance between stability and maneuverability, both in urban driving and on longer journeys.

Advanced autonomous driving under test
XPENG GX is currently being tested in Guangzhou with Level 4 autonomous driving. The test vehicles use four XPENG Turing chips, delivering a combined computing power of approximately 3,000 TOPS.
In addition, according to a Swedish beta tester, the model has been observed as a test vehicle in and around Stockholm. However, it is too early to conclude whether this indicates a future European launch.

Conclusion
XPENG GX appears to be XPENG’s most ambitious SUV to date. The model combines large physical dimensions with a focus on comfort, flexibility, and advanced technology, clearly positioning itself above the G9 in the model hierarchy.
GX is therefore unlikely to be a direct replacement for the G9, but rather:
- a technological flagship
- a reference point for XPENG’s upper SUV segment
- and a glimpse into how future XPENG models may evolve
